IRSG APPROPRIATE USE DEFINITION DESCRIPTIONS FOR LOCATES

Child Support Enforcement – Individual reference products may be used by state or local (or a state, local government official or private company authorized by the head of such an agency) child support enforcement agencies to locate parents who have failed to pay their court assigned child support obligations.

Witness & Victim Locating – Individual reference products may be used to assist in the location of witnesses or victims in relation to a documented criminal or civil action.

Apprehending Criminals – State, federal and local law enforcement agencies may use individual reference products to locate criminals, bail jumpers, and individuals with outstanding warrants or suspects in documented criminal investigations. Reference products may NOT be used to locate suspects in a criminal or civil lawsuit in order to develop a news story.

Locate Alumni/Class Reunions – Universities, colleges and professional alumni organizations may use individual reference products to locate former students for the purpose of organizing class reunions.

Legal Process Service – Attorneys and law enforcement officials may use individual reference products to assist in the serving of subpoenas and other official legal documents.

Locating Former Patients – The medical industry may use individual reference products to follow-up on the status or welfare of former patients.

Locating Fraud Victims – Individual reference products may be used to locate known or potential fraud victims identified in an active criminal or civil investigation. Reference products may NOT be used to hunt down victims, their family members or friends to develop a news story.

Locating Missing Persons – Individual reference products may be used: (1) to assist in locating individuals, including children, who have been reported to law enforcement as missing or abducted, (2) when the information is being obtained in connection with a documented civil or criminal action, or (3) when there is a legitimate business related nexus between the requestor and the subject of the report. Experian information may NOT be used to locate lost loves, friends, family members or for personal reasons (e.g. dating, etc.). Reference products may NOT be used for purposes that may cause physical or emotional harm to the subject of the report (examples: stalking, harassing, etc.) Additionally, reference products may NOT be used to search for individuals involved in an adoption (children, parents, siblings, etc.).

Fraud Prevention – Individual reference products may be used to detect or prevent possible fraudulent activity. These products may also be used to authenticate ea caller's identification or change of address request. Reference products may NOT be used to qualify or confirm the identity of current or potential dating partners.

Locating Beneficiaries and Heirs – Individual reference products may be used to assist in the identification, location or verification of beneficiaries, shareholders, and heirs to estates or pensions. They may also be used by real estate venture companies to locate investors that are owed money from real estate transactions.

Employment Verification – Individual reference products may be used to verify, confirm or obtain addition information on employment applicants. In the private investigative community, only private investigators that are strictly in the employment screening business may be approved for this use.

People Locator Services – Reference services may NOT be used to locate personal information on well known/high profile celebrities, government officials, etc. Additionally, they may NOT be used to locate former friends, neighbors, loved ones or family members.

Product Recalls – Product manufacturers may use individual reference products to locate individuals who purchased defective or recalled products.

Credit & Collections – Individual reference products may be used to locate individuals listed as a reference on a credit application, to verify address changes, or to locate debtors. It may also be used to authenticate the identity of potential and existing customers. Reference products may NOT be used in connection with credit repair services, to locate previous debtors or to assist in the determination of whether or not to file a personal lawsuit or judgment against the subject of the report (asset searching, etc.).

Finding Owners of Unclaimed Goods – Airlines and hotels may use reference products to locate the owner of lost or forgotten luggage, personal items, etc.

Locating Former Employees – Employers may use individual reference products to assist in the delivery of W2 forms addressed to former employees that no longer reside at the last known address. This use is approved for VA.

Locating Existing Customers – Individual reference products may be used to locate current customers (e.g. returned mailings).

Reference products may NOT be used to access individual reference data on ones own self or out of personal curiosity.

Nevada law requires that if we disclose non-credit information to an individual or business, we must make the subject of that report aware of that disclosure if they request a copy of their credit report. Therefore, Experian has decided to deny all customers access to ID Profile, address Update and Social Search on consumers who reside in Nevada.

Professional and commercial users (VB) may only use reference products for purposes within their normal course of business. (Example: A collection agency may not use reference products to locate a witness to a crime.)

A violation of the IRSG principles may constitute an "unfair and deceptive practice" under the Federal Trade Commission Act.
